Douglas Alvarez was born in Los Angeles, California and raised in the urban decay of the Valley. His father is a retired Baptist preacher man but Douglas's passion is painting. He describes his work as urban neo-folk art. Wood is his favorite surface to paint but is known to paint on any surface he discovers. Animals, nature, soulful faces, old architecture, decaying walls, untrimmed trees, graffiti, luchadoras and unexplainable lights in the sky are all elements he absorbs to create art. His artwork was recently selected by the City of Los Angeles, 2009 Latino Heritage Month Cultural Guild. Galleries he displayed work include: Avenue 50 Studio, Strychnin Gallery, Julie Rico Gallery, La Luz De Jesus Gallery, Coachella Music Festival (Global:Inheritance), The Hive Gallery, Cactus Gallery, MF Gallery (NYC), United Cat events and Cannibal Flower.
